LinkedIn will air its first TV commercial during the Academy Awards broadcast on Sunday, encouraging users to find their dream job using the professional networking site.
Chief Executive Jeff Weiner narrates the 30-second astronaut-themed spot, “You’re Closer Than You Think,” which aims to inspire job seekers to pursue opportunities that might seem out of reach, such as a job at NASA. NASA came to LinkedIn last year for help to find their next astronaut, and LinkedIn’s data found that 3 million users in the U.S. were qualified for the job.
“The astronaut is a universal symbol of a dream job,” said LinkedIn’s vice president of marketing, Nick Bartle. “We believe inside all of our members there is a moonshot for an astronaut-like job out there.”
LinkedIn’s commercial, which was created by the company’s in-house creative studio and BBDO San Francisco, will also run during Jimmy Kimmel’s post-Oscars special and shows such as “Shark Tank,” “Fresh Off the Boat” and “The Family.” In addition, the campaign will include a print ad in the New York Times and digital and social ad buys.
